About me

Hi, I'm Stephan, a Linux Administrator / sysadmin from Germany.

I installed my first Linux distribution about 14 years ago and I think I started with Ubuntu 6.04. Together with my brother I tried to get my Sound Blaster card working, I compiled Nvidia graphics drivers from source, I used the old Linux native Skype client and all the time I had no idea what I was doing. But I had a blast doing it.

A couple of years later I rented my first Linux server from Host Europe and started to setup services that I wanted to use myself. An Apache webserver for a very basic website I can't even remember and have sadly no backup from and a TeamSpeak server for my friends which is still running to this day.

In 2014, after I studied Geoscience for a few years and realized this is not what I wanted to do for the rest of my life, even though it is extremely interesting, I switched to working in IT as a Linux Administrator. Currently I work for https://www.npo-applications.de/and manage the Linux environment.

I love tinkering with new technologies, not just Linux but Windows as well. I'm not a hardcore Linux evangelist, I use Windows 11 + WSL2 as my daily driver and have not used a desktop Linux for years.

The last few years I dove deeper into modern system management like Ansible, Terraform, Intune (Windows) and use Git whenever possible to manage my personal infrastructure.
